Main Focus:

As a training manager takes ownership in developing, documenting, maintaining, facilitating, and supervising training programs for Small Business employees. Assesses the needs of our firm, while implementing training and development plans, as well as facilitate a wide variety of training programs that enhance the effectiveness of the Small Business workforce at all skillset levels.  Customizes the training according to specific clients’ needs and specifications, including software, so that Small Business employees are able to meet the needs of our clients.

Assist and takes ownership of client accounting, personal tax, and ONBusiness administrative tasks that arise during the year as directed by the Small Business Department Head; including some monthly accounting duties for clients; preparation of complex T1 returns as well as review of Small Business client T1 personal tax returns and T4 Returns.

Accountable For / Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct job specific onboarding training sessions with new Small Business staff.
  • Identify and assess the training needs of the small business department through job analysis, career paths and consultation with managers.
  • Assess employees’ skills, performance and productivity to identify areas of improvement.
  • Develop individualized and group training programs that address specific business needs using effective and purposeful training methods.
  • Develop, document and maintain key processes, work instructions and training manuals that target tangible results.
  • Effectively manage the training budget, if and when required.
  • Develop and maintain a training matrix to track all Small Business training achieved per employee. Expand on the training matrix requirements as the business needs change.
  • Drive ONBusiness brand values and philosophy through all training and development activities.
  • Effectively communicate with team members, trainers and management.
  • Select and manage resources, including working with both internal employees and training vendors to develop and deliver training.
  • Assist in the development of KPI’s to measure and track the effectiveness of the training provided to Small Business employees.
  • Keep abreast of training trends, developments and best practices.

Being consistent, accurate, and minimizing errors are key characteristics for this position. Crucial to have in-depth knowledge of accounting and to understand how to use accounting software systems.  Responsible for overseeing and reconciling hundreds of financial transactions. This is typically done with the assistance of various software systems, and for this reason, technology literacy is critical for the position.

  • Track project budgets utilizing multiple currencies;
  • Prepare and submit GST filing and posting and other source deductions;
  • Other accounting duties, as required;
  • Process full cycle Payroll for various companies using a variety of software from QuickBooks, Sage 50, PayWorks, Ceridian, etc.,
  • Responsible to process ROE’s, T4’s, etc. for assigned clients;
  • Bank Reconciliations;
  • Full Cycle Accounting (A/P and A/R);
  • Help with month end and year end closing files;
  • Process A/P for proper coding and reconciliation of the account and works closely with A/R and collections;
  • GL account reconciliations and month end journal entries into GL;
  • Prepare year end working papers for financial statement preparation
  • Performing duties at client premises;
  • T1 preparation;
  • T4 Preparation;
  • Advanced working knowledge of Practice;

BOB HARVEY

As a Manager of Small Business Bob is responsible for recording and maintaining various client business’ financial transactions, such as purchases, expenses, sales revenue, invoices, and payments.

Crucial to have in-depth knowledge of accounting and to understand how to use accounting software systems.  Responsible for overseeing and reconciling hundreds of financial transactions. This is typically done with the assistance of various software systems, and for this reason, technology literacy is critical for the position.

Previous experience running his own small printing and publishing business from 1990-2006.  Since that time Bob has worked in accounting and bookkeeping at various levels from accounting technician at a small public accounting firm to working in the accounting department of a large automotive dealership chain, most recently doing full cycle bookkeeping for one of Manitoba’s largest powersports dealership.

Education:

Have taken several accounting courses through the CGA program but have not attained a designation.

Outside Interests:

Bob is married with two daughters and four grandchildren.  Interests include spending time with the family, concerts, dining out, reading, and other generally nerdy stuff.
